Pump Discharge (Outlet) Pipe

Dear Mazda Dealer,

On June 1, 2017, Mazda Motor Corporation decided to conduct a Voluntary Safety Recall and Emissions Campaign to address a concern with 2004-2008 RX-8 vehicles.

Concern Outline:

The fuel pump discharge (outlet) pipe may deteriorate and potentially develop a crack in the pipe, causing fuel leakage which may increase a risk of fire. There are 68,672 vehicles in the United States affected by this Safety and Emissions Recall.

Affected Vehicles:

Model Build Date Range
All 2004-2008 RX-8 From April 10, 2003 through February 18, 2008

Note: The subject vehicles are the exact same group as those subjected to the on-going Recall Campaign 0516J (Fuel leak at fuel pump rings).

Customer Notification:

Mazda will notify owners of affected vehicles by mail on July 31, 2017.

Additional Information: From June 2, 2017 through July 31, 2017 current customers with recall 0516J that come in requesting an emergency repair must have the fuel pump assembly replaced. Repair, Parts and Warranty information will be modified to reflect this change.

At this time MNAO has a limited supply of parts to complete emergency repairs. Please contact the DAG to obtain parts for these emergency repairs. A VIN will be required for each order. If a backorder situation should occur, place the customer in a MCVP vehicle or Rental vehicle if needed. Currently there are NO vehicles with an open 0516J recall. Counter-measure repair parts for Recall 1017E will be available in July.

Vehicles affected by this Safety Recall will appear in a ‘Not Launched’ status on eMDCS until the recalls are launched.

Additional details, including parts and warranty information, and repair instructions, will be provided later this month.
