2002-2008 B-SERIES TRUCKS – GRABBING CONDITION FROM REAR DRUM BRAKES
APPLICABLE MODEL(S)/VINS
2002-2009 B-Series Trucks
Some vehicles may experience a grabbing condition from the rear drum brake assemblies during the first few brake applications.
The condition only occurs after the vehicle has been parked for several hours.
To reduce moisture intrusion into the rear brake drums, silicone is used to seal the brake backing plate.
REPAIR PROCEDURE
- Raise and support vehicle and remove rear wheels.
- Replace rear brake drum linings using MS3 online or Workshop Manual (section 04-11).
WARNING: Do not breathe dust or use compressed air to blow dust from storage containers or friction components. Remove dust using government-approved techniques. Friction component dust may be a cancer and lung disease hazard. Exposure to potentially hazardous components may occur if dusts are created during repair of friction components, such as brake pads and clutch discs. Exposure may also cause irritation to skin, eyes and respiratory tract, and may cause allergic reactions and /or may lead to other chronic health effects. If irritation persists, seek medical attention or advice. Failure to follow these instructions may result in serious personal injury.
- Inspect the rear drum brake assemblies for damaged, missing and/or improperly seated adjuster plug (A) or parking brake cable. Replace any damaged or missing parts.
- Inspect and clean rear brake drum surface. Machine if necessary.
- Reinstall the rear brake drums and adjust the rear brakes according to MS3 online or Workshop Manual (section 04-11).
- Clean the backside of the backing plate using Brake Parts Cleaner (0000-77-620E-05) or equivalent for proper adhesion of silicone.
- Apply Silicone (Permatex Ultra Black 82180
