Incorrect Air Bag and Seat Belt Indicators
Incorrect indicator warning lights may lead the driver and/or passengers to be unaware of deactivated air bags or unfastened seat belts, increasing the risk of injury.

Summary
Mazda North American Operations (Mazda) is recalling certain 2019 Mazda3 vehicles. Due to incorrect programing, the passenger air bag deactivation indicator light may erroneously turn off although the passenger air bag is deactivated. In addition, the seat belt status indicators for both the front passenger seat and/or rear seats may erroneously turn off although the front passenger and/or rear seat belts are unfastened.
Remedy
Mazda will notify owners, and dealers will replace the passenger air bag/seat belt status indicator assembly, free of charge. The recall began July 9, 2019. Owners may contact Mazda customer service at 1-800-222-5500, Option 4. Mazda’s number for this recall is 3319E.

Recall Campaign 3319E
CONDITION OF CONCERN
Certain vehicles may exhibit any one or all of the following concerns, due to a faulty indicator assembly:
- Passenger air bag deactivation indicator light may turn off, even though the passenger air bag is deactivated.
- Seat belt status indicator of the front passenger seat may turn off, even though the front passenger seat belt is unfastened.
- Seat belt status indicators of rear passenger seats may turn green, even though the rear seat belt(s) are unfastened.
These false indicator concerns can be detected by illumination of the air bag system malfunction warning light in the instrument cluster and an audible warning.
There is no effect on the air bag system operation. False information may lead the driver and passengers to react inappropriately to the warning lights, increasing risk to their safety, such as a driver being unaware the passengers in the rear seat are not belted while vehicle is moving.
Drivers can detect these defect occurrences by illumination of the air bag system malfunction warning light in the instrument cluster and an audible warning.
Dealers are instructed to replace the Indicator Assembly with a modified one. The repair must be performed on all subject vehicles at no charge to the vehicle owners.
