Safety Recall 5723B
REPAIR PROCEDURE
NO Harness and/or Hitch installed:
Chronology :
August 5, 2022: MTM Logistics Quality regular inspection detected five vehicles at Mazda Port facilities with peeling or detached wire harness adhesive mounting brackets. Mazda
began to investigate the concern; installation of the harness was halted to prevent any potential further outflow of the concern into the field.
August 15, 2022: Inspection of field units with accessory harness kits installed by dealers did not show recurrence of the peeling/detached adhesive.
September 2022~December 2022: Mazda conducted investigations of the concern to assess root cause, potential effects on any field units with the condition, and review of actual field conditions.
January 2023~Middle of February 2023: Mazda did not receive any field reports related to this concern through this period. However, Mazda
continued to identify the total population of potentially affected vehicles in North American markets.
February 22, 2023: Mazda held a Quality Audit Committee meeting to review all available information to date and, out of an abundance of caution, determined to conduct a proactive field action on certain MY 2023 CX-50 vehicles equipped with accessory trailer hitch wire harnesses.

April 2023
This notice applies to your vehicle: VIN _______ _
Dear Mazda Owner:
N**H**T*S A
www.nhtsa.gov
This notice is sent to you in accordance with the National Traffic and Motor Vehicle Safety Act.
Mazda Motor Corporation has decided that a defect which relates to motor vehicle safety exists in

If you received this notice, your vehicle is included in this Safety Recall.
What is the problem?
On certain 2023MYCX-50vehicles with the installed Mazda Genuine Accessory trailer hitch harness, the

7-pin harnesses are affected.
What will Mazda do?
Protect What Is Important To You
Your Mazda dealer will repair your trailer hitch harness kit. The repair will be performed free of
charge and at no cost to you.
How long will it take?
It will take approximately 1 hour to complete the repair; however, your Mazda dealer may need
your vehicle for a longer period of time. Mazda will provide alternate transportation, if needed,
when your vehicle is at an authorized Mazda dealership for a recall repair. Please schedule an
appointment with an authorized Mazda dealer so they can discuss and accommodate your needs.
What should you do?
Mazda is concerned about your safety, and we encourage you to contact any authorized Mazda
dealer to schedule an appointment to have your CX-50 vehicle repaired as soon as possible. You
do not need to bring this notice to the dealer, but it may assist in the check-in process.

Owner Notification: Mazda will notify owners of affected vehicles for this campaign on April 12, 2023.
Owners will be asked to bring their vehicle to the nearest Mazda dealership for repairs. This recall also
affects 2,592 customers who purchased their vehicle new in Canada. As a reminder, any vehicle from

a connected trailer may become inoperative, increasing the risk of a crash.
For All Subject Vehicles: The Mazda trailer hitch harness will be replaced using an improved trailer
hitch harness kit. There will be no charge for this service to vehicle owners. NOTE: Failure to properly
perform any recall repair is a direct violation of Paragraph 14(F) of the Dealer Agreement and can cause one
or more of the following: Mechanical breakdown or failure, crash or injury, Dealership penalties/fines by
Mazda and NHTSA, increased liability risk for the dealership, Missed Recall penalties, loss of customer trust
and a poor Customer Experience.

August 5, 2022: MTM Logistics Quality regular inspection detected five vehicles at Mazda Port facilities with peeling or detached wire harness adhesive mounting brackets. Mazda began to investigate the concern; installation of the harness was halted to prevent any potential further outflow of the concern into the field.
However, Mazda continued to identify the total population of potentially affected vehicles in North American markets.
February 22, 2023: Mazda held a Quality Audit Committee meeting to review all available information to date and, out of an abundance of caution, determined to conduct a proactive field action on certain MY 2023 CX-50 vehicles equipped with accessory trailer hitch wire harnesses. Description of Remedy :
Description of Remedy Program : Owners will be notified by mail and instructed to take their vehicle to a
Mazda dealer.
Dealers will rework affected units using an improved trailer hitch harness kit.
Mazda was able to identify 311 VINs with trailer hitch harness kits through internal systems. However, accessory kits are generally not traceable to unique VINs. For those trailer hitch harness kits that could not be matched to a specific VIN, Mazda will ask dealers to attempt to make contact with original purchasers to notify them of the concern. Dealers will be given copies of owner letters to forward to purchasers. A reimbursement program will not be offered as subject vehicles are under new vehicle warranty coverage. How Remedy Component Differs from Recalled Component : Remedy components have an improved design which uses a revised routing and installation method.
