2016 MX-5 – POOR A/C PERFORMANCE

APPLICABLE MODEL(S)/VINS

2016 MX-5 vehicles with VINs lower than JM1ND******105713 (produced before September 16, 2015)

 

Poor A/C performance due to a slow refrigerant leak from the O-ring groove on the cooler pipe (high pressure side) at the expansion valve.

 

REPAIR PROCEDURE

  1. Using a refrigerant leak detector or a black light, determine where the leakage is coming from.
    • If the leak is detected at the connection where the “Cooler Pipe (HI) C” connects to the expansion valve, replace the “Cooler Pipe (HI) C” (A) with a new one according to the instructions on MS3 online or the Workshop Manual (section 07-11).

  • If the leak is NOT detected at the connection where the “Cooler Pipe (HI) C” connects to the expansion valve, troubleshoot the climate control system according to the instructions on MS3 online or the Workshop Manual (section 07-03).
