When pressing the START/STOP button, the ignition may not turn off on some vehicles equipped with a gate-type AT shifter.

Although the shift lever is in “P” position and the engine shuts off normally, the ignition may stay on (in accessory mode).

This concern may be caused by a worn switch unit.

To eliminate this concern, the switch unit material has been changed to improve wear resistance. Modified switch units have been established as new service parts.

  1. Remove Mazda6 front console box (A) or CX-5 rear console (A) according to the instructions on MS3 online or the Workshop Manual to access the switch unit (B):

  1. Hi everyone,
I just made this repair but now my car won’t start. The auxillary stuff comes on but the engine wont turn over. Any ideas? Thanks.

  2. I just completed this replacement & did it with just a snub Phillips screwdriver (to remove the actual switch) and a regular flat head screwdriver to remove the panels. Works great now and the part was $75 at my local dealer. The exchange is easier if you remove the center cup holder on the Mazda 6. Not sure about other models. Good luck!

    1. YES! Ours died. Towed to dealer. Supposedly repaired. Took 4 tries to exit the dealership. They told us the part is sticky at first. Drove 30 miles home. Went into neutral crossing Rt 1 with no light. Death waiting to happen. Towed back to dealer. We’ll see

  3. Hello

where exactly is this located? I want to replace it, but I cannot recognize which part of the car it is 🙂 It is somewhere near to gearbox? Under bonnet? In fuse box?
