2016 MX-5 – PASSENGER SIDE FOOTWELL AREA TOO HOT FROM HEAT RADIATED BY HEATER CORE
APPLICABLE MODEL(S)/VINS
2016 MX-5 vehicles with VINs lower than JM1ND******108888 (produced before December 16, 2015)
The temperature is too hot around the passenger side footwell area.
This concern is due to heat radiated directly from the heater core (A) to this area.
To correct this problem, a heat insulator (urethane sheet) is now attached to the under part of the heater core (B) to decrease the surface temperature.
REPAIR PROCEDURE
NOTE: In the following graphics, the heater core unit is removed from a vehicle and placed upside down for viewing purpose only. It is not necessary to remove it for the actual repair. The work can be done by accessing the heater core unit from passenger side footwell without removing any surrounding parts.
- Attach the insululator starting from point (A).
- Start attaching the heat insulator by aligning the one edge with the cutout portion (A) to the heater core unit closest to the 12 volt accessory socket.
- Attach the heat insulator to the top surface of the heater core unit (without any wrinkles).
- Attach the edge of the heat insulator (without any clearance) by aligning it with the shape of the heater core unit.
- Attach the heat insulator as shown.
- Attach the edge of the heat insulator along the round shape.
- Fold the heat insulator over the edge and attach.
- Fold over the edge portions of the heat insulator and attach.
