In extreme cold weather conditions (5 degrees F or lower), some vehicles may experience an engine no start condition after the vehicle has had repeated start-ups and short distance driving.

This may be caused by water condensation freezing in the main silencer and causing a blockage.

The inlet pipe holes and the drain pipe have been modified inside the main silencer to reduce the occurrence of this concern.

Customers having this concern should have their vehicle repaired using the following repair procedure.

  1. Crank engine while observing tail pipe for escaping water or ice.

NOTE: It is normal for small amounts of water condensation to escape from the tail pipe.

  • If exhaust system is obviously restricted by ice blockage, proceed to Step 2.
  • If excessive amounts of water or ice is observed coming from tail pipe, proceed to Step 2.
  • If excessive amounts of water or ice is not observed coming from tail pipe, refer to the Workshop Manual for further troubleshooting information.
