2016 MX-5 – CLUNK/RATTLE NOISE FROM REAR BRAKE

APPLICABLE MODEL(S)/VINS

2016 MX-5 vehicles with VINs lower than JM1ND******107656 (produced before November 1, 2015)

Clunk/rattle noise from the rear brakes when going over lane dots or uneven/rough road surfaces.

Vibration from the road surface shakes the brake caliper causing the brake pads in the caliper to move and hit the caliper support.

The noise will disappear when the parking brake is lightly applied.

To correct the problem, the rear brake caliper support and rear brake pads have been changed.

REPAIR PROCEDURE

  1. Replace the rear brake calipers and pads with modified ones (both sides) according to the instructions on MS3 online or the Workshop Manual (section 04-11).
