CREAK/SQUEAK NOISE FROM REAR SUSPENSION

APPLICABLE MODEL(S)/VINS

All 1995-2000 Millenia.

When driving at slow speeds, entering driveways, driving over speed bumps in parking lots, or driving on rough roads, a creak or squeak noise may be heard from the rear suspension.

This noise may be caused from lack of lubrication at the ball joint area of the upper trailing link(s). The noise may also be heard by pushing down on the rear of the vehicle when stopped.

An improved part with an increased diameter ball joint and improved lubricant is available to resolve this concern.

REPAIR PROCEDURE

Upper Trailing Link

  1. Remove both rear upper trailing links and determine if noise is still present. Refer to Workshop Manual (02-14).
    • If noise is still present, re-attach upper trailing links and inspect other rear suspension components for source of the noise.
    • If noise is not present, replace both upper trailing links with the modified part.

NOTE: Before installing new links, check the base of each mounting stud (body side) for excess weld slag/chips. If found, remove them with hammer and chisel.
