2013-2014 CX-5 – NOISE FROM FRONT DOOR CHECKER AREA

APPLICABLE MODEL(S)/VINS

2013-2014 CX-5 vehicles with VINs lower than JM3KE******398378 (produced before October 1, 2013)

Noise from the front door checker installation location (A) whenever the door is opened.

 

When the door is fully opened, the door checker may become over-stroked and cause a crack at the spot welding area around the door checker.

 

To eliminate this concern, the thickness of the hinge reinforcement has been increased.

REPAIR PROCEDURE

  1. Inspect the body panel welding point (A) on both front doors.
    • If no cracks are found on the body panel, this does not apply. Refer to the online instructions on MS3 or the Workshop Manual for further troubleshooting.
    • If the body panel is cracked, repair it according to the steps below:

Cracked only (no corrosion found):

  • Apply approx. 0.3 ml grease per side (using either molybdenum grease or lithium grease) on the welding point (A) (cracked area).
  • Install plate (C) (checker reinforcement) on the body panel.

Tightening Torque (B): 71-106 in•lbf {8-12 N•m, 82-122 kgf•cm}

  • Repeat the repair on opposite side front door.

 

Cracked and Corrosion found:

  • Remove all corrosion found on the body panel.
  • Apply primer to the repaired surface.
  • Apply touch up paint to the repaired surface.
  • Install plate (C) (checker reinforcement) on the body panel.

Tightening Torque (B): 71-106 in•lbf {8-12 N•m, 82-122 kgf•cm}

  • Repeat the repair on opposite side front door.
