APPLICABLE MODEL(S)/VINS

2005-2006 and 2008 Tribute vehicles equipped with Automatic Transaxle (ATX) built from Aug. 1, 2004 to Feb. 15, 2007

Engine stall when coming to a stop or when engaging the ATX into drive or reverse.

This condition may be intermittent, and often occurs after extended drives.

There may be no diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs) stored.

This concern may be caused by internal wear of the torque converter, which prevents it from unlocking. A modified torque converter is available.

REPAIR PROCEDURE

  1. Check automatic transmission fluid (ATF) level and add if necessary.
  2. Inspect and repair all non-transaxle codes according to Workshop Manual.
